Yusuf (JP) Saleeby, M.D.: Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire: A Great Physician’s Contributions to Medicine. Friday, March 23, 2012; 4:30 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.

 This presentation will discuss Dr. McGuire’s upbringing in a medical family, his early years with his activism within the Northern (Pennsylvania) colleges of medicine, his contributions to the CSA war effort and being a staunch supporter of the South til his death. It will detail his involvement with General Stonewall Jackson during his time serving him and his corps and, more importantly, his work following the war in establishing hospitals and medical colleges in Virginia and his contributions to American medicine as a leader in the field.


 Yusuf (JP) Saleeby, MD received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1991.  He obtained post-graduate education in internal medicine at East Carolina University School of Medicine.  Since 1992 he has worked predominantly in Emergency Medicine and Integrative Preventive Care.  Dr. Saleeby applies the principles of traditional western medicine with select, well studied and researched elements of alternative medicine from the disciplines of Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acupuncture & Western Herbal Medicine.  He serves as medical director for an EMS service as well as the South Carolina Urban Search & Rescue Task Force-1 (Homeland Security/ FEMA).



Dr. Saleeby is a medical writer and blogger having written extensively for regional and national journals and magazines.  Publications include Diversions Magazine, Medical Economics, PracticeLink Magazine, Cortlandt Forum, American Fitness amongst others.  He sits on the medical advisory board for the Aerobic & Fitness Association of America and Beachbody companies. 
 

He authored the book:  Wonder Herbs: A Guide to Three Adaptogens (Xlibris, 2006)  and has formulated sports specific dietary supplements for a variety of nutraceutical companies (AdapTx Lab’s CardioFactor & PreFight, Vita Sanus Nutraceutical line & Parthelion  Lab’s Fertility Regimen).  In 2010 Dr. Saleeby founded AtroGene Telehealth an online resource for medical second opinion telemedicine and eStatLabs.com an Internet site dedicated to direct access lab and blood testing for the public.
 

Dr. Saleeby is a collector of original fine art and medical antiques and books.  His medical antique collection includes instruments from 100AD to circa 1950’s with many pieces in the pre-1880’s (Civil War era) time period.  He is a speaker on topics of medical history with a focus on American Civil War medicine and surgery and is an active member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons.
